AuToBioGRaPhY oF a DoNKeY

I am a little, grey donkey called Canter. I live with my master, Grey Wilson, in Meadow Farm. I don't like my master too much because he doesn't treat me right. His temper is really bad and he has a surly face and a cold and unfriendly mouth to match it.

He torments me and doesn't give me enough to eat. This is why, at the end of the day I become ravenous. He often takes me out for a ride, saddling me with heavy things. When I stop to rest for a bit, he whips me and calls me a "lazy beast" or "brute."

I have only three good friends at the farm - Frisky, the dog, Daini, the parrot and Smothers, the cat. Frisky cheers me up by performing silly acrobatic stunts, which he learnt in a circus. Daini makes me laugh with his insolence and rude, cheeky remarks. Smothers lies close to my legs and tickles me with her sharp, pointed claws.

I am really busy on Tuesdays because Grey takes me to the market with a cart latched on to me. It's usually loaded with 18 cartons of pure fresh milk, two pounds of farm best butter, two cages of poultry, a box of new laid eggs and a separate sack of vegetables.

I get very tired after I come back and wish for a juicy carrot or thistles but unfortunately, Grey doesn't give me anything of the sort.

I don't want to sound arrogant, but I am a pretty donkey with a conspicuous, black spot on my lovely, grey coat and a long tail. I hate my master and wish I could work for a kinder person who would feed me well and offer a few words of kindness and comfort. Someday perhaps, I will be able to escape from the farm and live the life that I have always wanted to live.
